Plavina, 2017
SUSTAINABLE FARMING Plavina is without a doubt Croatia’s most underrated coastal red grape! Oftentimes in the shadows of better-known varietals Plavac Mali and Babić, Plavina certainly has its own place and offers completely different characteristics from other Croatian coastal reds. Plavina is a bit fresher, softer, brighter, more restrained, and livelier, so much so that one would never guess that it comes from a warmer climate on the rocky soils located right in front of the pristine Adriatic Sea! With all grapes hand-picked, and the resulting wine only coarsely filtered, Piližota’s Plavina has really expressed its authentic Dalmatian characteristics: lively acidity, fresh red berries and fruit, lower alcohol that isn’t overpowering, a solid tannin structure, with a hint of chocolate and constant undertones of Dalmatian earthiness.
Roxanich Porco Rosso, 2011
Another marvelous example of what wine is by wine-guru Mladen Rožanić! Much like his other wines, Porco Rosso wins you over completely just on the nose! Wonderfully rustic, lean, bright, yet juicy, funky, and spicy! In the glass, you feel that special "terra rossa" soil of Istria, which is bursting with minerals and iron. It is unfiltered so you will see some cloudiness accompanied by some of that lovable barnyard, natural wine "elegance." However, the juiciness that you get from its lively character universally wins over all sorts of palates. A completely unpretentious wine that is suppose to make people smile and be happy -- hence the label!

Zlatan Plavac - Otok Hvar, 2015
A premium red wine from Zlatan Plenković, one of Croatia’s best winemakers, that does not carry such an extra-ordinary premium price. The wine is dark ruby in color, with a rich and layered, pleasant, and deep aroma that has undertones of Dalmatian herbs, spices, minerality, saltiness, dark fruit, and a touch of barnyard and “funk.” The wine is warm and comforting on the nose, which is typical of Zlatan’s wines and has given them a specific identity and cult-following in Croatia and Europe. It is immensely structured and balanced, and possesses a refined, complex, and an exceptional presence on the palate that is followed by a long and persistent finish. Zlatan Plavac has long been linked as the traditional drinks of fishermen, peasants and farmers, as well as the exceptional wine connoisseur, with the very best “details” that a Croatian table has to offer during a special occasion.
